Infiniti Transmissions

Finding the right Infiniti transmission

Most Infiniti automatics are Jatco units shared with Nissan: the RE5R05A five-speed behind the rear-wheel-drive V6 and V8 cars to 2010, the RE7R01A seven-speed from 2008, and CVTs in the front-wheel-drive crossovers. The 2.0L turbo Q50 and Q60 and the QX30 use Mercedes-Benz units, and the newest QX60 and QX80 nine-speeds come from ZF and from Jatco under Mercedes-Benz license.

The unit a car has follows the engine and drive layout, and the same transmission often carries two names — Nissan’s RE7R01A is Jatco’s JR710E. The 2014 renaming (G to Q50 and Q60, M to Q70, EX to QX50, FX to QX70, JX to QX60, QX56 to QX80) did not change what was underneath. Give us your VIN and we’ll match the right one.

Transmission Families

The transmissions behind most Infiniti vehicles

RE5R05A five-speed — G35, FX, M, Q45, QX56, EX35, 2002–2010

Jatco’s JR507E, behind the V6 and V8 in the G35 (2003–2008), FX35 and FX45 (2003–2008), M35 and M45 (2006–2010), Q45, QX56 (2004–2010) and EX35 (2008–2010); the same unit went into the Nissan 350Z, Titan, Armada, Pathfinder and Frontier. The RE4F04B four-speed served the front-wheel-drive I30 and I35.

RE7R01A seven-speed — G37, EX, FX, M, Q50, Q60, Q70, QX56, QX80, 2008–2024

Jatco’s JR710E and JR711E, behind the VQ, VR and VK engines in the G37, EX37 and QX50 (2011–2017), FX37, FX50 and QX70, M37 and M56, Q50, Q60 and Q70, and the QX56 and QX80 (2011–2024); also in the Nissan 370Z and Frontier. No widespread failure pattern is documented.

Jatco CVT — JX35, QX60, QX50, QX55, 2013 on

The JF016E CVT8 in the JX35 and QX60 (2013–2020), the JF017E hybrid version in the QX60 Hybrid (2014–2017), and an Xtronic CVT of the same family in the QX50 and QX55 from 2019. The 2013–2014 CVTs proved problematic — judder, loss of drive and replacement, and Nissan had to replace some over a hydraulic-line issue; NHTSA complaints on the 2014 QX60 are dominated by powertrain failures. Two class settlements extended the CVT warranty: Batista for the 2013–2014 JX35 and QX60 (final approval 2017, with a software update) and Stringer for the 2015–2018 QX60 (final approval March 2022).

Nine-speeds — QX60 2022 on, QX80 2025 on

The ZF 9HP48 in the QX60 from 2022, and the Jatco JR913E — the Mercedes-Benz 9G-Tronic built under license — in the QX80 from 2025.

Mercedes-Benz units — Q50 and Q60 2.0t, QX30, to 2019

The 722.9 7G-Tronic seven-speed behind the Mercedes-Benz 2.0L turbo in the Q50 and Q60 2.0t (to 2019), and the 7G-DCT dual-clutch in the QX30 (2017–2019).

FAQ

Used Infiniti transmission questions, answered

How do I find out which transmission my Infiniti has?

The transmission model — RE7R01A, for example — is on a label or stamp on the case, and it follows the engine and drive layout: the five-speed behind the V6 and V8 to 2010, the seven-speed from 2008, CVTs in the JX, QX60, QX50 and QX55, and Mercedes-Benz units behind the 2.0L turbo. Send us the full VIN and we will identify it.

What is the difference between a used, remanufactured and rebuilt transmission?

A used transmission is a tested unit taken from a donor vehicle. A rebuilt transmission has been disassembled, repaired and reassembled. A remanufactured transmission has been restored to like-new condition. Tell us your vehicle and budget and we will recommend the right option.

My 2013–2018 QX60 CVT judders — is it covered?

It may be. Two class settlements extended Nissan’s CVT warranty: Batista for the 2013–2014 JX35 and QX60, which also brought a software update, and Stringer for the 2015–2018 QX60. Ask a dealer whether your vehicle still falls inside the extension before replacing the unit.

Does a used Infiniti transmission come with a warranty?

Yes. Every transmission we sell is covered by warranty, and extended cover is available at extra cost. The full terms are in our Warranty Policy.
