Finding the right Lexus transmission
Lexus automatics are Toyota units, and the family a car has follows its layout: U-series transaxles in the front-wheel-drive ES and RX, A-series units in the rear-wheel-drive IS, GS, LS and SC and in the GX and LX, eight- and ten-speeds in the newer cars, and eCVT transaxles in every hybrid.
Which one a Lexus has depends on the model, the drive layout and the year, and an all-wheel-drive version — U151F, U660F, UA80F, A760H — is not the same unit as the two-wheel-drive one. Give us your VIN and we’ll match the right one.

The transmissions behind most Lexus vehicles
U-series transaxles — ES and RX, 1999–2018
The U140E and U140F four-speed in the ES300 (1999–2001) and RX300, the U151E and U151F five-speed in the ES300 (2002–2003), ES330 and RX330 (2004–2006) and RX350 (2007–2009), and the U660E and U660F six-speed in the ES350 (2007–2018) and RX350 (2008–2015). F denotes all-wheel drive.
UA80 eight-speed — ES350, 2019 on
Toyota’s UA80E and UA80F “Direct Shift” eight-speed transaxle in the ES350 from 2019; the 2016–2022 RX350 also moved to an eight-speed. Owners of 2017-on UA80 units have reported noise, harsh shifts and warnings with reduced power; Toyota issued service bulletins and a customer support program covering some 2017–2018 units, and a class action was filed in December 2025.
A-series automatics — IS, GS, LS, SC, 1998–2013
The A650E five-speed in the GS300, GS400 and GS430 (1998–2005), IS300 (2001–2005), LS400 and LS430 (to 2003) and SC430 (2001–2005); the A761E six-speed in the LS430 (2004–2006), GS430 (2006–2007) and SC430 (2006–2010); and the A760E six-speed in the GS300, GS350 and IS350 (2006–2013), with the A760H in the all-wheel-drive IS250 and IS350 and the A960E in the rear-drive IS250.
AA80E and AA81E eight-speeds — LS460, GS350, IS350, IS F, RC F, 2007 on
The AA80E in the LS460 (2007–2017), GS460, IS F, RC F, GS F and IS500, and the AA81E in the GS350 (2014–2020), IS350 (2014 on) and RC350. The AE80F eight-speed served the LX570 (2016–2021).
A750F, A760F and the ten-speed — GX, LX, LC500, LS500
The A750F five-speed in the GX470 and LX470 (2003–2009), the A760F six-speed in the GX460 (2010–2023), and the AGA0E ten-speed in the LC500, LS500 and the LX600 (2022 on).
Hybrid transaxles — RX400h to NX350h, 2006 on
The P310 in the RX400h, P313 in the RX450h (2010–2022), P314 in the ES300h (2013–2018) and NX300h, P710 in the ES300h from 2019, P711 in the UX250h, P810 in the NX350h and NX450h+, P410 in the CT200h and P311 in the HS250h; in the rear-drive hybrids, the L110 (GS450h 2007–2011, LS600h) and L310 (LC500h, LS500h). A hybrid transaxle is not a swap for a conventional automatic.

FAQ
Used Lexus transmission questions, answered
How do I find out which transmission my Lexus has?
The transmission code is on a tag or label on the case, and it follows the model and drive layout: U-series transaxles in the front-wheel-drive ES and RX, A-series units in the rear-wheel-drive cars and the GX and LX, and P- or L-series transaxles in the hybrids. Send us the full VIN and we will identify it.
What is the difference between a used, remanufactured and rebuilt transmission?
A used transmission is a tested unit taken from a donor vehicle. A rebuilt transmission has been disassembled, repaired and reassembled. A remanufactured transmission has been restored to like-new condition. Tell us your vehicle and budget and we will recommend the right option.
My 2019-on ES350 shifts harshly — is that the transmission?
Possibly, but check for a program first. The UA80 eight-speed has drawn owner reports of noise, harsh shifts and reduced-power warnings; Toyota issued service bulletins and a customer support program for some 2017–2018 units, and a class action was filed in December 2025. Have a dealer confirm whether your car is covered before replacing the unit.
Does a used Lexus transmission come with a warranty?
Yes. Every transmission we sell is covered by warranty, and extended cover is available at extra cost. The full terms are in our Warranty Policy.
