Transmission Options
Which transmission does your Enclave have?
The Enclave has always been an automatic, with one transmission per generation: the Hydra-Matic 6T75 six-speed for 2008–2017, the 9T65 nine-speed for 2018–2024, and a GM eight-speed in the third-generation model from 2025. All three were offered in front- and all-wheel drive.
The table below shows what was fitted when. Both the six-speed and the nine-speed had a documented GM program, so it is worth knowing which you have before you decide on a replacement — we confirm from the VIN.
| Transmission | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 6T75 six-speed automatic | Code: 6T75 | All years, front- and all-wheel drive, behind the 3.6L LY7 and LLT. |
| Transmission | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 9T65 nine-speed automatic | Code: 9T65 | RPO M3V or M3W, front- and all-wheel drive, behind the 3.6L LFY. |
| Transmission | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| GM eight-speed automatic | Code: MF8 | Behind the 2.5L turbo LK0. |

Before You Order
What to check before you order
Three generations, three transmissions
The 6T75, the 9T65 and the eight-speed do not interchange, and the changeover years — 2018 and 2025 — are the ones to check carefully.
Front- or all-wheel drive
Every generation was sold both ways. Tell us which yours is so we quote the matching unit.
Revised parts in a rebuilt 6T75
GM advised fitting the later 3-5-R piston and wave plate whenever a 6T70 or 6T75 is opened; the piston was revised during the 2011 model year. If you are offered a rebuilt unit, ask whether it has them.
Diagnosis and programming — 9T65
The nine-speed is electronically controlled, and GM’s bulletin 20-NA-138 sets out how a shift complaint is diagnosed before a transmission is replaced. A replacement also has to be set up to the vehicle once fitted.
Have your VIN ready
With the VIN we can confirm the transmission, drive type and model year before we quote, which avoids ordering the wrong version.
Common Problems
Common Enclave transmission problems
3-5-R wave plate failure — 6T75, 2008–2017
The wave plate in the 3-5-reverse clutch fractures, setting code P0776 and taking away reverse and often third and fifth; slipping and flaring come first, and the debris then goes through the valve body. GM’s bulletin 09-07-30-012F covers 2008–2009 Enclaves and Special Coverage 14404 names the 2007–2009 Enclave with the six-speed; no GM document covers 2010–2012 Enclaves.
Harsh shifts and shudder — 9T65, 2018–2021
Harsh or erratic shifts, clunks and shudder are documented on 2018–2021 Enclaves. GM ran a transmission-replacement program for these units in the US, alongside the Traverse, Blazer, Acadia and Cadillac XT5 and XT6; the pilot ended on 30 September 2021 and bulletin 20-NA-136 (July 2022) withdrew mandatory replacement in favor of diagnosis under 20-NA-138. There is no NHTSA recall for the 9T65’s internals.
Start/stop accumulator recall — 2019–2020
The accumulator end cap on some 2019–2020 Enclaves was built with bolts missing, so transmission fluid can leak out and the vehicle can lose drive. It is a recall fix, not a reason for a new transmission on its own — check the VIN before you order.
Shift-cable clip — recall 09V073
An early first-generation recall covered a shift-cable clip that could leave the transmission out of Park. Have any open recall done before suspecting the transmission.

FAQ
Enclave transmission questions, answered
Which transmission does my Enclave have?
A 2008–2017 has the 6T75 six-speed, a 2018–2024 the 9T65 nine-speed, and a 2025-on model the eight-speed. Front- and all-wheel-drive versions differ, so send us the VIN.
My 2008–2009 Enclave lost reverse. Is that the wave plate?
Very likely: a fractured 3-5-R wave plate takes reverse, third and fifth, usually with code P0776. Ask a dealer whether Special Coverage 14404 applied to your VIN before buying a transmission; if it did not, a rebuilt or remanufactured unit with the revised piston and wave plate is the answer.
Is my 2018–2021 Enclave’s 9T65 covered by GM’s replacement program?
The program was a pilot that ended on 30 September 2021, and GM’s July 2022 bulletin 20-NA-136 withdrew mandatory replacement. Shift complaints are now diagnosed under 20-NA-138, and there is no NHTSA recall for the transmission. If a dealer has confirmed the unit needs replacing, we can quote a matching 9T65.
Is the transmission covered by a warranty?
Yes. Every transmission we sell is covered by warranty, and extended cover is available at extra cost. The full terms are in our Warranty Policy.
