Engine Options
Which engine does your Enclave have?
The Enclave has had one engine per generation, and three different 3.6L V6s across the first two: the port-injected LY7 for 2008 only, the direct-injected LLT from 2009 to 2017, and the LFY with stop/start in the 2018–2024 model. The third-generation Enclave, from 2025, moved to a 2.5L turbocharged four-cylinder.
The table below shows which engine goes with which years. The three 3.6Ls look alike but do not interchange, so we confirm from the VIN before we quote.
| Engine | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 3.6L V6, port injection | Code: LY7 | 2008 only. 275 hp. |
| 3.6L V6, direct injection (SIDI) | Code: LLT | 2009–2017. 288 hp. |
| Engine | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 3.6L V6, direct injection with stop/start | Code: LFY | All trims. 310 hp. Eighth VIN character W. |
| Engine | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2.5L turbocharged four-cylinder | Code: LK0 | All trims. 328 hp. |

Before You Order
What to check before you order
LY7 or LLT
The 2008 Enclave’s LY7 is port-injected; the 2009-on LLT is direct-injected, with different heads, fuel system and engine controller. One will not go in place of the other, and the timing-chain kits differ too.
LLT or LFY
The 2018 redesign brought the LFY, a different version of the 3.6L with stop/start. We match it by code and model year, not by displacement.
Four-cylinder from 2025
The third-generation Enclave has no V6. Its 2.5L turbo LK0 is a different engine family altogether, so nothing from an earlier Enclave applies.
Have your VIN ready
With the VIN we can confirm the engine, model year and generation before we quote, which avoids ordering the wrong version.
Common Problems
Common Enclave engine problems
Timing-chain wear — 3.6L LY7 and LLT, 2008–2017
The chains stretch and wear, bringing a rattle on start-up and codes P0008 and P0016–P0019 as the cam timing drifts. The LY7 and LLT use different chain kits, so a repair or a replacement engine has to match the code.
Special Coverage 11340 — 2009 Enclave
GM’s special coverage for timing-chain wear names the 2009 Enclave alongside the Traverse, Acadia and Outlook, covering the LY7 and LLT under certain conditions. Third-party sites claim 2008 and 2010–2011 Enclaves as well, but GM’s own document does not list them, so check your VIN with a dealer before paying for an engine. GM also reprogrammed the oil-life monitor on these engines to call for more frequent oil changes.
Loss of drive from the start/stop system — 2019–2020
A late-2020 recall covers 2019–2020 Enclaves whose start/stop accumulator end cap was built with bolts missing; transmission fluid can leak out and the vehicle can lose propulsion. It is a transmission-side fault, not the engine, and the dealer does the fix under the recall, so check the VIN before suspecting the engine.

FAQ
Enclave engine questions, answered
Which 3.6L does my Enclave have?
A 2008 has the LY7, a 2009–2017 the LLT and a 2018–2024 the LFY, whose eighth VIN character is W. Send us the full VIN and we will confirm it along with the model year.
Will a Traverse or Acadia 3.6L fit my Enclave?
The Enclave shares its engines with the Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia of the same generation — GM’s own coverage documents list them together — so an engine from one of those with the matching RPO code is a candidate. It still has to suit the same model year. Send us the VIN.
Is it worth replacing a 2008–2017 engine with chain wear?
A start-up rattle with timing codes and nothing else usually means a chain kit rather than an engine, and on a 2009 it is worth asking a dealer whether Special Coverage 11340 applied to your VIN. If the engine has other damage or an unknown oil-change history, a replacement with the matching code is the cleaner answer.
Is the engine covered by a warranty?
Yes. Every engine we sell is covered by warranty, and extended cover is available at extra cost. The full terms are in our Warranty Policy.
