Transmission Options
Which transmission does your Acadia have?
Every Acadia has been an automatic driving the front or all four wheels: the 6T75 six-speed through the first generation, the 6T70 (with a separate six-speed behind the 2.5L four) on the 2017–2019 second generation, the 9T65 nine-speed from 2020, and an eight-speed on the 2024-on third generation.
The table below shows what was fitted when. The same model year can carry two different units depending on the engine, so we confirm from the VIN before we quote.
| Transmission | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 6T75 six-speed automatic | All first-generation Acadias, front- or all-wheel drive, with the LY7 and LLT 3.6L. |
| Transmission | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 6T70 six-speed automatic | 3.6L LGX, 2017–2019. | |
| Six-speed automatic | 2.5L four-cylinder, 2017–2019; which unit the 2020–2021 2.5L cars have is confirmed from the VIN. | |
| 9T65 nine-speed automatic | Code: M3V / M3W | 3.6L LGX and 2.0L turbo, 2020–2023. |
| Transmission | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Eight-speed automatic | Front- or all-wheel drive, behind the 2.5L turbo. |

Before You Order
What to check before you order
Six-speed or nine-speed
A 2017–2019 Acadia with the 3.6L has the 6T70; a 2020–2023 car with the 3.6L or the 2.0L turbo has the 9T65. The 2.5L four had its own six-speed. Match the unit to the year and engine, not just the model.
Two 2017 Acadias
The Acadia Limited sold for 2017 is the first-generation body on its own six-speed, sold alongside the new 2017 model. The VIN tells us which you have and which unit it carries.
Front- or all-wheel drive
Every generation came with front- or all-wheel drive, and the unit is matched to the driveline, so tell us which yours is.
Have your VIN ready
With the VIN we can confirm the transmission, engine, drive type and model year before we quote, which avoids ordering the wrong version.
Common Problems
Common Acadia transmission problems
3-5-R wave plate — 6T75, 2007–2009
The wave plate for the 3-5-reverse clutch cracks, taking third, fifth and reverse with it and sending debris into the solenoids. GM Special Coverage 14404 covered 2007–2009 Acadias and has expired; updated plates went into production in 2009, though owner complaints continue to around 2013.
9T65 internal faults — 2020–2021
GM bulletin 20-NA-136 directed dealers to replace rather than repair a 9T65 with internal faults on 2020–2021 Acadias within 18 months or 18,000 miles, under a replacement pilot program. Outside that window the choice is a rebuild or a replacement unit.
Half-shaft and sun-gear recalls — 2023
Recall 23V-172 covers 2023 Acadias built with the wrong sun gear, which can let the driver-side half-shaft disengage, and recall 23V-043 covers a right-front half-shaft that was not fully seated and can cause a rollaway. A 2023 that loses drive is a recall check before it is a transmission fault.

FAQ
Acadia transmission questions, answered
Which transmission does my Acadia have?
It follows the year and engine: the 6T75 on every 2007–2016 Acadia, the 6T70 behind the 3.6L in 2017–2019 (with a separate six-speed behind the 2.5L), the 9T65 nine-speed behind the 3.6L and 2.0L turbo in 2020–2023, and an eight-speed from 2024. Send us your VIN and we will confirm.
My 2007–2009 Acadia has lost third, fifth and reverse. Is that the wave plate?
Those three gears share the 3-5-reverse clutch, so a cracked wave plate is the usual cause on these years. GM’s Special Coverage 14404 paid for the repair on 2007–2009 Acadias but has expired, so check your VIN with a dealer first; otherwise we can quote a replacement unit.
Is a transmission problem on a 2023 Acadia recall-related?
It may be. Recalls 23V-172 (wrong sun gear) and 23V-043 (right-front half-shaft not seated) both cause loss of drive or rollaway on 2023 cars. Have any open recall done before suspecting the transmission.
Is the transmission covered by a warranty?
Yes. Every transmission we sell is covered by warranty, and extended cover is available at extra cost. The full terms are in our Warranty Policy.
