Which engine does your Murano have?
For 22 model years the Murano had one engine, the 3.5L VQ35DE V6: 245 hp in the 2003–2007 Z50, a revised 265 hp in the 2009–2014 Z51 and CrossCabriolet, and 260 hp in the 2015–2024 Z52. The direct-injected VQ35DD never came to the Murano. A supercharged 2.5L hybrid was offered for 2016 only, and the 2025-on Z53 switched to the 2.0L VC-Turbo four-cylinder.
The table below lists what was offered when. There was no 2008 Murano, and the three V6 tunes are matched by generation, so we confirm from the VIN before quoting.

What to check before you order
Three tunes of one V6
The 2003–2007, 2009–2014 and 2015–2024 engines are all VQ35DEs but are rated differently, and we match by generation rather than treating them as one engine. The model year tells us which you need.
No 2008 Murano
Nissan skipped the 2008 model year. If you think yours is a 2008, check the VIN: it is either a 2007 Z50 or a 2009 Z51, and the two take different versions of the V6.
2016 Hybrid
The 2016-only Murano Hybrid has a supercharged 2.5L four and an electric motor rather than the V6. Tell us if yours is one.

Common Murano engine problems
3.5L VQ35DE — 2003–2024
We have found no Murano-specific engine recall and no documented failure pattern for the V6 in any of its three tunes. The Murano’s known trouble has been in its CVT, which has its own page.
CVT trouble blamed on the engine — 2003–2010 and 2015–2018
If the engine runs but the car does not drive as it should, suspect the CVT first. Nissan extended the CVT warranty on 2003–2010 cars to 10 years/120,000 miles in 2009, and a 2025 class settlement (Beaver v. Nissan) extended the 2015–2018 CVT warranty to 84 months/84,000 miles. Both have run out for most cars.
VC-Turbo bearing recalls on other models — 2.0L, 2025 on
The KR20DDET belongs to the VC-Turbo family that NHTSA began investigating in December 2023 for main-bearing failure, with metal found in the oil pan, and the 2019–2022 Infiniti QX50’s version was recalled in 2025 (25V-437). The 2025-on Murano was not in a recall as of our last check; look it up by VIN before paying for an engine.

Which engine does my Murano have?
The 3.5L VQ35DE V6 for every 2003–2024 Murano except the 2016 Hybrid, which has a supercharged 2.5L four, and the 2.0L VC-Turbo four from 2025. The V6 comes in three tunes by generation, so send us the VIN and we will confirm.
Did the Murano ever get the direct-injection 3.5L?
No. The Pathfinder moved to the VQ35DD in 2017, but the Murano kept the port-injected VQ35DE until the V6 was dropped after 2024.
Will a 3.5L from a Maxima or Pathfinder fit my Murano?
The VQ35DE was used across many Nissans, but each has its own version and rating. Send us your VIN and we will tell you what interchanges.
