Transmission Options
Which transmission does your Murano have?
Every Murano from 2003 to 2024 has an Xtronic CVT: the Jatco JF010E behind the V6 in the 2003–2007 Z50 and 2009–2014 Z51, and a later Xtronic unit in the 2015–2024 Z52. The 2025-on Z53 moved to a conventional nine-speed automatic with paddle shifters behind the 2.0L VC-Turbo.
The table below shows what was fitted when. Two cover programs matter here — Nissan’s 10-year CVT extension for 2003–2010 cars and the 2025 class settlement for 2015–2018 cars — and we confirm the year from your VIN before quoting.

Before You Order
What to check before you order
Which CVT
The JF010E was used in both the 2003–2007 and 2009–2014 cars, and the 2015–2024 unit is different again. We match by generation and model year rather than treating every “Murano CVT” as the same.
No 2008 Murano
Nissan skipped the 2008 model year. If you think yours is a 2008, check the VIN: it is either a 2007 Z50 or a 2009 Z51.
Front- or all-wheel drive
Tell us whether yours is front- or all-wheel drive; the transmission differs. Front-wheel drive was dropped for 2026, so every 2026-on Murano is all-wheel drive.
2016 Hybrid
The 2016-only Murano Hybrid pairs a supercharged 2.5L four with an electric motor. Tell us if yours is a hybrid so we quote for the right unit.
Have your VIN ready
With the VIN we can confirm the transmission, engine and model year before we quote, which avoids ordering the wrong version.
Common Problems
Common Murano transmission problems
CVT warranty extension — 2003–2010
In November 2009 Nissan extended the CVT warranty on every 2003–2010 CVT model, the Murano back to 2003 included, from 5 years/60,000 miles to 10 years/120,000 miles, and made it transferable. That cover has now run out on every Murano, so a failed JF010E on these years is no longer a warranty repair.
CVT class settlement — 2015–2018
A class action over the 2015–2018 Murano’s CVT (Beaver v. Nissan, which also covered the 2016–2018 Maxima) produced a settlement announced in 2025: the transmission and its control unit are covered to 84 months/84,000 miles from the original in-service date on cars acquired before 4 April 2025. Claims closed in July 2025, and most of these cars were already past seven years by then. Disputes over the extended warranty go to BBB Auto Line arbitration.
No transmission recalls — all years
We found no Murano-specific transmission recall. What cover exists came from Nissan’s own extension and the class settlement rather than from NHTSA, so check by VIN and in-service date rather than waiting for a recall notice.

FAQ
Murano transmission questions, answered
Which transmission does my Murano have?
An Xtronic CVT for every 2003–2024 Murano — the Jatco JF010E to 2014 and a later unit from 2015 — and a nine-speed automatic from 2025. Send us your VIN and we will confirm the version.
Does the 2015–2018 CVT settlement still cover my Murano?
Only if the car is still inside 84 months and 84,000 miles from its original in-service date and was acquired before 4 April 2025. For most of these cars the seven years have passed, and the claim deadline was July 2025.
Is the 2025 Murano’s nine-speed a CVT?
No. From 2025 the Murano has a conventional nine-speed automatic with paddle shifters behind the 2.0L VC-Turbo, and from 2026 all-wheel drive is standard.
Is the transmission covered by a warranty?
Yes. Every transmission we sell is covered by warranty, and extended cover is available at extra cost. The full terms are in our Warranty Policy.
