Engine Options
Which engine does your Rogue have?
For its first thirteen years the Rogue had one engine, the 2.5L QR25DE, carried through the 2008–2013 original (and the Rogue Select that outlived it) and the 2014–2020 second generation, with a 2.0L hybrid offered for 2017–2019. The third generation swapped it for the direct-injected PR25DD in 2021, then for the 1.5L VC-Turbo three-cylinder from 2022.
The table below lists what was offered when. The 2021 2.5L was a one-year engine and the 2022-on turbo has open recalls, so we confirm from the VIN before quoting.
| Engine | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2.5L four-cylinder | Code: QR25DE | All trims, including the Rogue Select. |
| Engine | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2.5L four-cylinder | Code: QR25DE | All non-hybrid Rogues. |
| 2.0L four-cylinder hybrid | Rogue Hybrid, 2017–2019, with a 30 kW electric motor. | |
| 2.0L four-cylinder, direct injection | Rogue Sport, 2017–2022 — a smaller, separate vehicle. |
| Engine | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2.5L four-cylinder, direct injection | Code: PR25DD | 2021 only. |
| 1.5L VC-Turbo three-cylinder | Code: KR15DDT | From 2022. |

Before You Order
What to check before you order
Rogue, Rogue Select or Rogue Sport
The Rogue Select of 2014–2015 is the old 2008–2013 model sold alongside the new one, and the Rogue Sport of 2017–2022 is a smaller vehicle with a 2.0L. Tell us which badge is on the tailgate.
Which 2.5L
The QR25DE of 2008–2020 and the direct-injected PR25DD of 2021 are different engines. The PR25DD was in the Rogue for one model year only.
Three-cylinder turbo
From 2022 the Rogue has the 1.5L KR15DDT VC-Turbo. It shares nothing with the 2.5L engines, and its recall history matters when choosing a replacement.
Hybrids
The 2017–2019 Rogue Hybrid pairs a 2.0L with an electric motor, and the later plug-in hybrid uses a Mitsubishi-based powertrain. Tell us if your Rogue is either.
Have your VIN ready
With the VIN we can confirm the engine, model year and body before we quote, which avoids ordering the wrong version.
Common Problems
Common Rogue engine problems
Bearing seizure — 1.5L VC-Turbo, 2022–2025
High oil temperature can seize the main bearings, leaving metal in the oil pan and, in the worst cases, a breached block. Recall 25V437 (June 2025) and recall 26V080 (February 2026, Rogues built October 2022 to November 2024) cover it; the remedy is an engine-control reflash, an oil-pan inspection for debris and an engine replacement where needed. Check by VIN before paying for an engine.
Throttle body gear — 1.5L VC-Turbo, built November 2023 to April 2025
A plastic gear in the electronic throttle body can fracture, leaving the throttle stuck closed: the engine stalls and may not restart. Recall 26V081 (February 2026) reflashes the software and replaces the throttle body as needed. It is not an engine failure.
Shudder that is the CVT, not the engine — 2014–2018
Shuddering and hesitation on these cars is usually the CVT, which was the subject of a class settlement (Stringer v. Nissan, 2022) that extended its warranty. Have the transmission checked before condemning the engine.

FAQ
Rogue engine questions, answered
Which engine does my Rogue have?
The 2.5L QR25DE on every non-hybrid Rogue from 2008 to 2020, the 2.5L PR25DD for 2021 only, and the 1.5L KR15DDT three-cylinder turbo from 2022. Send us your VIN and we will confirm.
My 2022-on Rogue has engine damage. Is it under recall?
Possibly. Recalls 25V437 and 26V080 cover bearing seizure on 1.5L turbo Rogues, and 26V081 covers a throttle body fault that causes stalling. Check your VIN on the NHTSA site or with a Nissan dealer before buying a replacement, because the bearing recall remedy includes a new engine where the bearings have failed.
Will a QR25DE from an Altima or Sentra fit?
The QR25DE was used across several Nissans, but each has its own set-up and the engine was revised over the years. Match the model year and send us your VIN so we can confirm.
Is the engine covered by a warranty?
Yes. Every engine we sell is covered by warranty, and extended cover is available at extra cost. The full terms are in our Warranty Policy.
