Honda Transmissions
Finding the right Honda transmission
Honda has moved its line-up from four- and five-speed automatics to CVTs and, on larger models, six-, nine- and ten-speed automatics. Which one a vehicle has depends on its model year and engine more than on its name.
Four-cylinder and V6 versions of the same model do not share a transmission, and hybrids from 2014 on have no conventional gearbox at all. Tell us the model year and engine, or give us your VIN, and we’ll match the right unit.
Transmission Families
The transmissions behind most Honda vehicles
Four-speed automatics
The Accord through 2002, the Civic through 2005 and the 1999–2001 Odyssey.
Five-speed automatics
The Accord (2003–2012), Civic (2006–2013), CR-V through 2014, Odyssey (2002–2010), Pilot (2003–2015) and Ridgeline (2006–2014).
Six-speed automatic
The Accord V6 (2013–2017), Odyssey (2014–2017), most Pilot trims (2016–2020) and the Ridgeline (2017–2019).

The four-cylinder Accord from 2013, the Civic from 2014, the CR-V from 2015, the Fit (2015–2020) and the HR-V (2016–2022).
Nine- and ten-speed automatics
The nine-speed in the Pilot, Passport, Ridgeline and some Odysseys from 2016, and Honda’s ten-speed in the Odyssey from 2018, the 2018–2022 Accord 2.0L turbo and the Pilot from 2023.
Hybrid e-CVT
The two-motor drive in the Accord Hybrid from 2014, the CR-V Hybrid from 2020 and the 2019–2022 Insight. It has no belt and no conventional gearbox.

FAQ
Used Honda transmission questions, answered
How do I know which transmission my Honda has?
It depends on the model, engine and model year. Send us your VIN and we will identify the exact unit for you.
Do four-cylinder and V6 Hondas share a transmission?
No. In the Accord, for example, the four-cylinder and V6 cars have used different transmissions in every generation. Always match the transmission to the engine.
Does a Honda CVT need special fluid?
Yes. Honda’s CVTs use Honda’s own CVT fluid, not regular automatic transmission fluid. Ask your installer to use the correct fluid when the unit is fitted.
Does a used Honda transmission come with a warranty?
Yes. Every transmission we sell is covered by warranty, and extended cover is available at extra cost. The full terms are in our Warranty Policy.
