Finding the right Toyota engine
Toyota fits the same engine to many models — the 3.5L V6 from a Camry is also found in the Avalon, Sienna and Venza — which widens the pool of good used engines for any one vehicle.
Every Toyota engine carries a code such as 2AZ-FE or 2GR-FKS, and the letters matter. The FE and FKS versions of the 3.5L V6 are different engines, and codes ending in FXE or FXS mark hybrid engines that do not interchange with the gasoline ones. Give us the code or your VIN and we’ll match it.
Engine Families
The engines behind most Toyota vehicles
1.8L four-cylinders — ZZ and ZR
The 1ZZ-FE powered the Corolla, Matrix and Celica from the late 1990s to 2008. The 2ZR-FE replaced it in the Corolla from 2009.
2.4L and 2.5L four-cylinders — AZ and AR
The 2.4L 2AZ-FE in the Camry (2002–2009), RAV4, Highlander and Scion tC, and the 2.5L 2AR-FE that followed it in the Camry (2010–2017), RAV4 and Scion tC.
V6 — MZ and GR
The 3.0L 1MZ-FE and 3.3L 3MZ-FE in the Camry, Avalon, Sienna and Highlander into the mid-2000s, then the 3.5L 2GR-FE and 2GR-FKS. The 4.0L 1GR-FE is the truck V6 in the Tacoma, 4Runner and FJ Cruiser.
V8 — UZ and UR
The 4.7L 2UZ-FE in the Tundra, Sequoia, 4Runner and Land Cruiser through 2009, then the 4.6L 1UR-FE and 5.7L 3UR-FE in the Tundra and Sequoia.
Dynamic Force — 2018 on
The current family: the 2.5L A25A-FKS in the Camry and RAV4, the 2.4L turbo in the Tacoma and 4Runner, and the 3.4L twin-turbo V6 in the Tundra and Sequoia.
Hybrid engines
Engines built for the hybrid system: the 1.8L 2ZR-FXE in the Prius, and the 2.5L 2AR-FXE and A25A-FXS in the Camry, RAV4 and Highlander hybrids.

How do I find my Toyota’s engine code?
The code — 2AZ-FE, for example — is stamped on the engine itself. If you can’t find it, send us your VIN and we will tell you exactly which engine your vehicle has.
What is the difference between a used, remanufactured and rebuilt engine?
A used engine is a tested unit taken from a donor vehicle. A rebuilt engine has been disassembled, repaired and reassembled. A remanufactured engine has been restored to like-new condition. Tell us your vehicle and budget and we will recommend the right option.
Can I fit a gasoline engine in a Toyota hybrid?
No. Hybrid engines are built differently from the gasoline versions and work with the hybrid transaxle and electronics. Replace a hybrid engine with the same hybrid engine.
Do you supply engines for Toyota trucks and SUVs?
